Am I full of poop? Constipation and weight gain

I love talking about poop. Bear with me, I PROMISE this post is worth it. Read on…

This topic gets people all uncomfortable and awkward. And, I’m all over here like “let’s talk about poop folks!”

For YEARS I struggled with massive poop issues. Not in the terms of I was having massive poops, but I had massive trouble GOING poop.

As many of you know, I was pregnant at the age of 16. Shortly after I had my son Stephen, I began experiencing excruciating gut pain.

It is also important to note that my nutrition (or lack thereof) consisted of Taco Bell’s Nachos Bell Grande, Pepsi and Little Debbie’s anything and everything.

Anyhow, I started noticing that after I’d eat one of these lovely high fat meals, I’d be doubled over in gut-wrenching pain and went from bouts of severe poops (going a lot- AKA diarrhea :)) to not going for 3 or more days.

Low and behold, a few months of this torture, and it was discovered that I had hundreds of gallstones lodged in my gallbladder which was on the brink of explosion…no joke = NOT FUN.

After I had emergency surgery to remove my gallbladder, things didn’t go as well as I had hoped. Because I was a mere 17 years old at the time, (and toting around a babe that was about 4 months old) I continued to eat shitty.

I had no clue on what healthy eating was. Literally– NO ‘EFFING CLUE. Every time that I ate, within 10-15 minutes I was on the bathroom with the similar pain and continued poo issues.

Fast forward a lot of poop stories later, and an education in nutrition, I finally have my digestion under control. Immediately my body knows when I’ve had a meal that is too high in fat and it sends me to the bathroom (is that TMI?).

So, although this post isn’t about gallbladder attacks or lack of gallbladder, if you are reading this and have these issues, please seek medical attention IMMEDIATELY. Also, take my word that nutrition will ease many of your post-gallbladder-surgery issues.

While I was enduring the years of not understanding my body’s issues with poo, I was always notably bloated, gassy and felt like I had a tire around my waist all the time. Now that I’ve got a handle on my nutrition and being in tune with my “regularity” I am a much happier (and nicer) person because I’m not full of poop!

Over the years, I’ve noticed that poop was a taboo topic that most professional coaches and trainers wouldn’t bring up. I decided that I wasn’t going to be that coach. My Goddesses need real talk and real results.

So…after some quirky ice breakers, I started discussing the “poop talk” with my clients. I could not believe how many women were suffering with constipation. It was mind blowing!

Many times constipation was linked to their frustration with the scale. When my clients hit a snag in their results I like to offer a process of elimination (no pun intended with the topic of todays post 🙂 and discuss areas like:

  • Digestion (POOP)

  • Adequate Sleep

  • Stress management

  • Hormone regulation

  • Rest & Recovery

It’s often easiest to start making changes in terms of getting them regular and going poop daily. So many of these issues are intertwined, but we can often start with getting on a regular poop schedule and see some pretty awesome results in other areas.

You may not realize it, but constipation can lead to many issues you may be facing…

Irritability, lack of sleep, water retention, bloating, headaches, a general feeling of fatigue, depression, WEIGHT GAIN…the list goes on.

Diseases can be held in the gut and if you are not eliminating regularly, you could experience any of those symptoms and then some.

I’ve included a super awesome video today that will give you 3 very important tools that you can be using immediately to create some healthy new poo habits!

Here are a few of MUST HAVE awesome items that I discussed in this video:
